House Washing & Pressure Washing in Windsor, ON
Looking for pressure washing or power washing in Windsor? For your home's exterior, the tool that actually works is soft washing — and here's why it matters.
High pressure damages vinyl siding, forces water behind cladding, strips painted surfaces, and can void manufacturer warranties. Soft washing uses low pressure combined with professional, environmentally safe cleaning chemistry to remove algae, mould, mildew, and organic staining safely — without any of that risk.
Richardson Clean uses soft washing as our standard approach for house washing across Windsor-Essex. It gets better results on biological staining than pressure washing, and it's safe for vinyl, brick, stucco, wood, EIFS, and painted surfaces. The chemistry does the work. The water rinses it away.

What's Included
What Soft-Washing Treats
Soft-washing is effective against algae, mould, mildew, lichen, and general organic buildup — the green, black, or grey staining that accumulates on siding, fencing, concrete, and exterior surfaces over time. It also treats Baudoinia compniacensis (whiskey fungus), the black sooty growth common on properties downwind of the Hiram Walker distillery in Walkerville, Riverside, and East Windsor.
The Process
Professional cleaning solution is applied to the exterior surface at low pressure and allowed to dwell — the chemistry breaks down and kills the biological growth at the root and emulsifies dust, dirt and grime. The surface is then rinsed thoroughly. Unlike pressure washing, which blasts the surface off, soft-washing kills the organisms eating away at your surfaces. Regrowth is significantly slower as a result.
Surfaces We Clean
Soft-washing is appropriate for vinyl siding, brick and mortar, stucco, EIFS, wood siding, fencing, concrete, driveways, patios, decks, and rooflines. If you're not sure whether your surface is suitable, ask — we'll give you a straight answer.
Windsor-Essex Environmental Considerations
Properties in Windsor-Essex face two specific staining challenges that most other Ontario cities don't. Iron oxide fallout from Zug Island across the Detroit River embeds into glass and siding, producing a hazy rust-coloured contamination that standard cleaning won't shift.
Whiskey fungus from the distillery facilities coat surfaces downwind with a black crust that requires biocidal treatment to address properly. Richardson Clean is familiar with both and equipped to treat them.
How Often Should You Soft-Wash?
Most Windsor-Essex homes benefit from an exterior soft-wash every two to five years. Properties with heavy tree cover, north-facing walls, or proximity to the Detroit River, Lake St Clair, or distillery may need more frequent treatment. We'll give you an honest assessment when we quote but if it looks dirty - it's time for a clean!
House Washing & Pressure Washing FAQ
Is soft washing safe for my plants, gardens, and landscaping?
Yes. We pre-wet and protect greenery before we start, control the rinse, and the cleaning solution is applied and rinsed at low pressure. Protecting your landscaping is part of the process, not an afterthought.
Do you soft-wash commercial buildings as well as homes?
Yes. The same low-pressure, finish-safe method works for storefronts, offices, and multi-unit exteriors — anywhere high pressure would risk damage but the surface still needs cleaning.
Can you remove the orange or rust-coloured staining on my house?
Often, yes. That rusty haze is usually iron-oxide fallout, which is common in parts of Windsor-Essex and doesn't come off with a standard wash — it needs a specific treatment, which we can assess when we quote.
Do you need access to my water and power?
Usually just an outdoor tap. We bring our own water where needed, so a lack of easy access isn't a dealbreaker — just let us know your setup ahead of time.
What time of year is best for soft washing?
Spring through fall in Windsor-Essex, whenever temperatures stay above freezing. If your home is looking dull, streaked, or green, that's the real signal it's time — season aside.
